PlayTV: Final UK release date announced

PlayTV, Sony’s USB HDTV tuner & recorder external box for the PS3 now has a final release date

PlayTV, The PS3’s DVB Freeview digital TV receiver box add on is to be released in Europe on the 10th 19th of September 2008.
The PlayTV box plugs in to your television aerial and hooks up to the PS3 via the USB connection, so its similar to a USB DVB freeview tuner you can get for your PC.
The box allows you to schedule and record freeview television on your PS3, effectively turning your PS3 in to a real media center machine. Perhaps a good reason to upgrade your PS3’s hard drive?
The recording will function fine while playing games and other such activities, so long as the USB cable is plugged in and you have firmware version 2.41
The price tag is reportedly set at £60 although subject to change.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have unveiled some new accessories for PlayStations…
PlayTV-A tuner for the PS3 which turns the PS3 in to a DVR (Digital Video Recorder), you can set recordings and even on your PSP.
Go!Video-Video download service for PSP which will feature content from Sky(on a pay per view basis) and other broadcasters.
Go!Messenger-Voice chat, video chat and instant messaging service for the PSP, it will become available as a download and installed on the memory stick rather then the PSP’s internal flash as expected (there just simply isn’t enough room left for that sort of thing!)
Go!Explorer-Satellite navigation software for the PSP which works in conjunction with the GPS attachment, which features three dimensional mapping, over 100 different categories e.g speed cameras, petrol stations & restaurants.
As for game releases…
A total of 62 software titles were planned for PS3 before the end of the year, including such eagerly awaited titles as Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank® Future: Tools of Destruction™ and Uncharted™: Drake’s Fortune. For PSP, 74 titles were scheduled for release by year end, including the latest titles from established IPs such as WipEout™, Pursuit Force™ and Syphon Filter™. PlayStation 2, which was still showing incredible growth given its seventh year on sale, would enjoy over 139 titles. For the PLAYSTATION®Network more than 22 titles were on track for a pre-Christmas release, including Warhawk™, WipEout HD and Grand Turismo 5 Prologue, the latest iteration of the best-selling racing game of all time.
