Now and then I help people out with their various PS3 issues, I decided it would be a good idea to have a questions and answers page, so here it is!

How do I access the PlayStation Store?
*Your PS3 will need to have internet access* go to Network, PlayStation Store.

How do I create a PlayStation Network Account on my PC?
Go to http://store.playstation.com

How do I update the PS3’s firmware?
If your PS3 is connected to the internet go to Settings, System Update.
If your PS3 is not connected to the internet, you will need to use a PC to download the update to an external USB storage device from the appropriate PlayStation region site.

Can I connect my external USB hard disk to my PS3?
Yes, it should work fine, you can run or even download your images, music, videos to and from the PS3 by using the appropriate menus e.g Music: USB Storage device

I have a 1080p/1080i TV but my game is only playing in 720p?
Some games such as Motorstorm are made using a definition of 720p, while others such as Ridge Racer 7 support 1080p/1080i

The PS3 did not correctly recognise my screens resolution, how can I adjust the PS3’s display settings?
Go to Settings, Display Settings, Video Output Settings.

I can’t play UK PS2 games or DVDs on my imported PS2?
Sorry but there is no way to fix this, only the PS3 games are region free.

Will my PS3 play my home movie DVD’s?
If you correctly make a DVD video it should run fine, when burning DVD’s I find I get better results burning on a slow setting.

The PS3 will not start, I am getting a hard disk error message!
Try removing the hard disk and putting it back in again, if this doesn’t fix the problem contact Sony support.

Can I play the PS3 online on my dial up connection?
You will need a broadband connection to take advantage of the PS3’s online capabilities.

How do I add a bluetooth Keyboard/headset/mouse?
Go to Settings, Accessory Settings, Register Bluetooth Device.

How do I save my PS/PS2 game saves?
You will need to create an internal memory card: Go to Game, Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2), + New Internal Memory Card.

What will the PS3 play?
The PS3 will play CD’s,DVD’s,PS1 disks,PS2 disks, Blueray disks and PS3 disks!!

I recently changed the PS3’s TV, nothing is being displayed?
Try resetting the PS3’s default settings: hold down the front power button until it beeps, the PS3 should switch to the default SD resolution and it should display. if it doesn’t display check there are no lose connections.

The text size on the web browser is too small, how can I adjust it?

- Press Triangle in the browser to bring up the browser menu
- View (press X to open)
- Character Size (press X to open)
- highlight a setting and press X to set

How do I configure the PS3 to upscale my DVD’s?
First make sure you have the latest firmware, then go to BD/DVD Settings, DVD Upscaler.

I have Windows XP/Vista How do I use Media sharing?
This guide shows you how to use Windows Media Player to share music, pictures, videos with your PS3

My TV is flickering when playing the PS3/Watching a blueray video
Check your TV is configured properly, there may be a “game” mode or something which eliminates the flickering.

If I upgrade/something goes wrong with my hard disk will I be able to download the games again from the PS Store?
You can download content you have paid for up to 5 times from the PS Store without having to pay again.
