E3: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars announced for DS

Nintendo briefly mentioned that an exclusive version of Grand Theft Auto will be making an appearence, on the DS of all things. Only a few details were released: it’s set in Liberty City (no news on whether its the GTA 3 or 4 version yet), and it’ll be in 3D.

That’s it. Hopefully more news will be milked out before the end of E3.

E3: WiiSports Resort

WiiSports Resort (sequel to the Wii pack-in title WiiSports) will be released globally next Spring, and feature a free Wii MotionPlus.

Only 3 games were shown: a Frisbee game featuring a cute little dog who chases after your throw.

a Jet Ski game, where you use the Wiimote and Nunchuk as the handlebars, and ‘rev up’ to increase speed,

and a Swordfighting game, which makes use of the increased sensitivity to either precisely chop blocks, or spar with your friends in the two player mode. More news on the other games as it arrives.

E3: Introducing WiiMusic

At E3 Nintendo has just announced Wii Music, A game which allows you to use your Wii peripherals as an instrumental device. While the full game will feature over 50 instruments, a few were demonstrated at the event, including Drums (using Wiimote and Nunchuk as drum sticks, and the Wii Balance board as the foot pedals), Guitar (strum with the Wiimote and Nunchuk), and Saxophone (using just the Wiimote, holding down different buttons plays different notes), while recording video of your music playing to play back at will.

The Wii mote acts as a drum stick, Wii fit board acts as pedals in this drumming demo.

Nintendo finished off with a group demonstration using a selection of virtual instruments.

E3: You’ll be using your peripherials this Christmas!

Nintendo have just shown off three new titles coming towards the end of the year, each using a Wii peripherial.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars (dated Holiday 08) will use the new ‘Wii MotionPlus’, which improves the sensor, giving a 1:1 ratio when using the Wiimote, allowing for impressive Lightsaber battles.

Rayman Raving Rabbids: TV Party (dated Fall 08) uses the Wii Balance Board and Wiimote to allow the player to ’surf the skies’ and play other fun looking minigames.

Call Of Duty: World at War (dated ‘Coming Soon’) uses the Wii Zapper to deliver the same FPS action you’d see on other platforms.

E3: Animal Crossing: City Folk for Wii

Katsuya Eguchi has just appeared on stage to announce the next game in the Animal Crossing series, Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii.

The game follows the same graphical art style and gameplay as the other games in the series, with the added benefits of an Auction House to sell items found, a Salon with the option to add your Miis face onto your character, and online features such as sending letters and inviting friends via the internet.

Another big feature is the addition of ‘WiiSpeak’, a directional microphone that can used during the online mode to talk real-time to your friends.
