Sony’s XEL-1 OLED TV -Europe 2009?

Reports indicate that Sony is planning to sell its 11 inch XEL-1 OLED (organic light emitting diode) TV in Europe by 2009. The TV has been on sale in Japan since December 2007.
OLED uses organic material in pixels which emits its own light, so no backlight is required, this means the display can be thinner and less power hungry. OLED also will handle images faster and offers richer colour reproduction than LCD and Plasma displays.
The screen currently retails for around $2,500 in the US and ¥200,000 in Japan.
