PS3 Firmware 2.40 - In Game XMB & Trophies

PS3 Firmware 2.40 is coming this Wednesday (July 2nd), and this video demonstrates the in game XMB.

The in game XMB is accessible by pressing the PS button in game, alongside the Controller Settings.

The in game XMB features

  • Time/date display.
  • Send Text messages to PSN users on your friends list.
  • Access accessory settings. For example,  you can enable your bluetooth headset without having to quit your game.
  • View and manage your current downloads.
  • You can search the web using Google Search which will appear under Network, just like the latest PSP firmware does.
  • Launch directly into another game from the one you are currently playing.
  • Play your own music tracks stored on the HDD while playing a game that supports the feature.
  • On screen music player interface when listening to your own tracks in supported titles.

Trophies

This video shows off the upcoming Trophy System.

Unfortunately your existing game saves will not unlock trophies for you, so you’ll have to play the games through all over again once the update comes out in order to unlock the trophies.
