No Afrika coming to Europe!

May 30, 2008 · Filed Under Gaming, PS3 · Comment

Sony has announced that Afrika will not be released in Europe.

Why isnt it going to be released? well we’re clueless at this point.

But luckily for you EU gamers who are still interested in getting hold of this game, the PS3 is region free so if you import a copy from America when (IF) it is released there, it will work fine.

WWIGO: Nokia mobile as a wireless web cam

Today I discovered a very cool free Series60 application ‘WWIGO (Webcam Wherever I Go) by Motvik’ which allows you to use your mobile phone as a wireless web camera over Bluetooth with your PC.

A screen shot image taken from MSN messenger using my N95 as a web cam:

The video is of a quality of 176 x 144 from the N95 using this software, but the quality doesn’t seem to be that far off from my usual webcam. It’s certainly worth sacrificing that little bit of quality for the excellent mobility though in my opinion.

For me it ran just about as fast as any other standard webcam, given that the phone was within a certain range of course.

I did have a few issues with getting the software to work properly with MSN messenger, but after reconnecting once or twice on the phone I managed to get it going ok.

Anyhoo its a cool app to mess around with if you have an N95 or another compatible series60 phone.

To grab it go to: WWIGO - you’ll need to register a free account before you can download it.

Warhawk Patch goes live tonight

May 20, 2008 · Filed Under Gaming, PS3, PlayStation, Warhawk · Comment

Dylan Jobe, Warhawk Developer has posted up a list of changes on the PlayStation US Board

* By popular demand, playlists which include the largest layouts now include only the largest layouts. They will no longer occasionally rotate into medium layouts.
* By popular demand, respawn times have been set to 3 seconds.
* By popular demand, Broken Mirror servers now offer dedicated CTF and ZNS games in place of the mixed playlists.
* Dogfight servers were added back to the list. They were inadvertently omitted before.
* All games’ time limits were reduced to 15 minutes, and ZNS score limit was reduced to 5000, to combat complaints of prolonged base camping.
* “NEWBIE” servers were changed to “Rookie” to bring the nomenclature in line with upcoming changes in v1.4.
* “Pro” servers were changed to “Expert” to more obviously indicate a skill level rather than a player type. Some players incorrectly identified “Pro” servers as tournament games, a la MLG or GGL.
* “Casual” servers are essentially the same as before, but the “Casual” designator has been dropped. We now refer to these internally as just “standard” servers, and they are listed without any special identifier.
* The rank cap on Rookie servers was increased to Wingman, since players were getting kicked out of these servers too quickly and finding themselves unprepared to play on standard servers.
* A rank cap was imposed on standard servers at Command Marshall. This is rank 15/19 so it should not affect a lot of players. The intention is to pull some of the most elite players out into their own category, somewhat narrowing the rank gap on these servers.
* Many Omega Dawn exclusive servers were removed due to lack of use.

Keep up the good work guys, I always look forward to Warhawk updates :)

Freesat from BBC & ITV

May 7, 2008 · Filed Under Television · Comment

BBC and ITV just launched Freesat, a subscription free Satellite TV service which promises 200 channels by the end of the year.

To get this you will need to pay a one off fee to get the satellite and decoding box installed.

This could be a good option if you want the freeview channels but don’t live in an area which can receive them over the aerial, or a fast internet connection.

For those of you out there who have an HD TV and dont plan on getting a HD subscription service in the future, a Freesat HD box might be for you. Currently this service only offers BBC HD, but according to the website ITV HD will be launching soon on the Freesat service.

If you go for an HD Digital Television Recorder box, you’ll get a recording feature similar to SKY + which according to the Freesat website; is capable of recording up to 160 hours of standard-definition or 80 hours of high-definition TV.

Sky has been offering a Freesat service of their own for years, they do not however offer an HD freesat service to my knowledge, this is a major selling point of BBC & ITV’s freesat.

I am sure there is good demand for an HD subscription free service.
