EU Rock Band Dated, Priced
EA / Harmonix have finally announced the release date and pricing for the European version of their 2007 US smash hit Rock Band. The game launches on the 23rd of May, as a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360, with the PS2, PS3 and Wii versions following later this summer.
The game will be sold separately from the “Instrument Edition”, comprising of a Microphone, Drum set and Guitar, for the high price of £130. Adding the price of the game (£50) on top, makes the RRP almost the same cost as the console to play it on (for comparison, when the game was released 7 months ago in the US, the entire pack sold for $170).
When questioned on why there was such a high mark up between the two regions, Rob Kay, design director at Harmonix, said the price difference is caused by “a myriad of little differences that all add up.”
Kay explained that VAT adds 17.5% to the total UK price, adding, “We’re not trying to screw people.” He goes on to say that he believes people who purchase the game will think it’s worth the money.
As minor consolation to the massive price hike, the EU version of Rock Band will come with an additional 9 localised songs from bands such as Oasis, Blur and Muse (full song list below. The games extensive online store will open on May 27th, featuring new downloadable tracks every week.

In Addition to that, Rock Band is Region ‘Locked’, So people hoping to import copies of the game from the US to avoid the high pricetag will not work.
