HD DVD/Blueray “Managed Copy”

hd_dvd_n_blu-ray_stacked1.jpgPresident Dan Glickman, of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) announced that Advanced Access Content System (AACS) system will be implemented in to the HD DVD & Blueray formats before the end of the year.

So what does this mean? it means users will be able to create official backup copies, there will however be security measures…

Once this “Managed Copy” system is implemented, studios will have the option to offer for example a limitation of copies which can be made of a disk.

There is fear however that this will just open the doors to piracy, as a few months back a previous version of the AACS encryption was in fact bypassed by a hacker.
