Microsoft Surface Revealed
Today Microsoft revealed Surface, a 22 inches high, 21 inches deep and 42 inches wide table which incorporates a 30 inch touch sensitive display. it is not just any ordinary touch screen, it can be touched with more then one finger to perform tasks such as stretching or cropping a photograph. in fact because it can regognize many points of touch at one time, multiple users can use it at once, no keyboard or mouse required!
The software platform behind surface is in fact Windows Vista, connectivity is established via its wired 10/100 ethernet connection or wireless 802.11g or bluetooth 2.0
Surface allows synchronization with mobile devices, so say you placed your mobile device on the Microsoft Surface, it would then allow you drag across images or even a travel plan simply with finger to your phone.
One of the potential features is the ability to purchasing goods in store or online by simply placing your card on to the surface of the table.
Towards the end of the year availability is expected to be limited to hotels, restaurants, retail and public entertainment venues across America, it is not yet clear however when it will be available to the UK.

Merseyside Police to trial Microdrone
Merseyside Police are to trial a Microdrone, a mini one meter wide helicopter, which can fly up to 500 meters high, equipped with a night vision camera.
The Microdrone can be controlled remotely or patrol autonomously using its sophisticated built in GPS nav system, if the signal is lost the Microdrone is apparently able to land itself.
The mini copter apparently can stay flying for 20 minutes until its batteries need to be recharged, so use would be somewhat limited, the makers say that it is suitable for “immediate deployment from car/dog van/other.” I imagine it would be useful to police searching for an individual, especially at night with its night vision camera.
Check out this youtube video of the Microdrone in operation, it certainly looks very maneuverable, wish I had the chance to play with this thing!

HD DVD/Blueray “Managed Copy”
President Dan Glickman, of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) announced that Advanced Access Content System (AACS) system will be implemented in to the HD DVD & Blueray formats before the end of the year.
So what does this mean? it means users will be able to create official backup copies, there will however be security measures…
Once this “Managed Copy” system is implemented, studios will have the option to offer for example a limitation of copies which can be made of a disk.
There is fear however that this will just open the doors to piracy, as a few months back a previous version of the AACS encryption was in fact bypassed by a hacker.
Streaming media to PS3 via XP
I thought I would share with your guys the method I am using to stream music, photos and videos to the PS3 using Windows XP.
You can share media in Windows XP using the library function in Windows Media Player (formerly Windows Media Connect).
To set it up
- Go to tools - options - library - configure sharing, click the check box to share your media.
- Search for a Media Server on the PS3 and it should pop up in windows as an Unknown Device, select to allow it.
- To select folders you would like to share click on [Monitor Folders...]
If you are having trouble trying to get it to work check that your firewall is not blocking anything*
It is a great feature, it would be better if the PS3 supported more video codecs and printers other then Epson (not for me because I luckily have an Epson Printer) but for those many other people who would like to print directly, but don’t want an Epson printer.
